This time of year is always extremely busy for everyone. Not only do we have the many wonderful celebrations at school, but there is also numerous end of year wind-ups for your families and the groups to which you belong outside of school.
As a Catholic School and living out the Charism of Mary Ward, it is our duty and responsibility to ensure that every child has access to quality, inclusive education. Currently, staff are completing the Disability Standards for Education e-learning modules. Completing the modules will also be a compulsory component of new staff induction and be part of ongoing accreditation for existing staffing 2022.
This week began with celebrating an important Feast Day in the Catholic Church – All Saints’ Day. All Saints’ Day commemorates all the saints in heaven. The feast dates back to the early Church when communities would gather and celebrate the anniversary of the martyr’s death. During the persecution under the emperor Diocletian at the beginning of the fourth century, the number of martyrs became so great that a separate day could not be assigned to each saint. Hence, the Church established a common feast day for all the martyrs. Here at Loreto Nedlands, we continue to pray for Mary Ward’s Beatification.

The month of October is a special month in our Catholic calendar because it is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is taken from the Latin word “rosarium” which means “crown of roses” or “garland of roses.” To us members of the Catholic Faith, the Rosary is a form of prayer that we use along with its namesake prayer beads. The Rosary is a devotion in honor of the Virgin Mary. It is made up of a set number of prayers. At the start of the Rosary are the introductory prayers which are composed of one Apostle’s Creed, one Our Father, three Hail Mary’s and one Glory Be. If you would like to learn how to pray the Rosary, please click on the link… http://www.scborromeo.org/prayers/rosary.pdf
We have been very fortunate here in the West with minimal COVID restrictions. Parents, please be assured that should circumstances change the school is prepared to move forward with any mode of learning as deemed appropriate by the Premier and Executive Director, Debra Sayce. Should matters change over the school holidays I will email you directly, once I have received the directive.
Today I attended the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth Child Protection Week Breakfast with Mrs Rebecca Barfoot. This year’s theme is: Every child, in every community, needs a fair go. Dr Karl O’Callaghan APM: Retired Commissioner of Police provided the keynote address, and The Most Rev Timothy Costelloe SDB, Archbishop of Perth, officially launched “You are God’s Marvellous Creation” book written by Andrea Musulin. They spoke of the importance of giving every child the opportunity to thrive and be healthy by providing adequate support to families and their communities. We are very fortunate here at Loreto Nedlands, and I thank all families for their support in our Mission and Social Justice work.
I am excited to share with you a new initiative for 2022. Loreto Nedlands will be offering several Music Scholarships that will cover a student’s tuition/ensembles etc., for the year and is tenable for the duration of their schooling at Loreto. The scholarship will be open to all current Loreto students and any wishing to join Loreto Nedlands. Please see our website for further details.
On Sunday, 15 August, the Church celebrates the Feast Day of the Assumption of Our Lady when according to our faith, the Holy Mother, “having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”.
Welcome to Term Three. I hope you had the opportunity to connect with family and friends over the holiday break. Would you please continue to keep all our Loreto families in your prayers, particularly those in areas affected by COVID?
