This morning we gathered together to celebrate 125 Years of Education in Western Australia. It was such a lovely morning. The students sang “Lead us On Mary Ward” with true conviction. Thankfully our beautiful sun shone brightly, allowing us to gather for morning tea in the Mary Ward courtyard following the Mass.

Welcome back to Term Three. I hope that you have all had a restful holiday with your loved ones and are ready to begin the term refreshed and renewed. We were excited to welcome our newest Loreto Nedlands family member, Donnelly, to our school this week. We can already see the benefits of having a wellness dog at school and look forward to many years of paw-some fun with Donnelly! We also welcome Mrs Peta Santella to Loreto Nedlands. Mrs Santella is our new Finance Manager and the lucky ‘mum’ to Donnelly.

I hope you can join us for our NAIDOC Week Mass hosted by our Year One students at Holy Rosary on Friday, July 1 at 9:00 am.

I take this opportunity on behalf of the Loreto Nedlands community to congratulate Caitlyn in Year Six for being awarded an Academic and General Excellence scholarship at St Hilda’s for 2023. Caitlyn currently aspires to become a doctor, and I’m sure she will attain her goal with her excellent education at Loreto Nedlands, followed by St Hilda’s.

The P&F is an integral part of Loreto Nedlands; therefore, parents, please take the time to read my P&F Principal report as it outlines some important points. I encourage you to attend the meetings so that you are aware of upcoming events, their purpose and how you may be able to help out. The minutes are available on the school website.

This week the Leadership Team in Faith and Formation, comprising of myself, Rebecca Barfoot and Katie Sharman attended a three day workshop on Evangelisation. These days have guided us in creating the framework for how the school promotes our Catholic Faith to broaden and deepen our personal relationships with Jesus. Mary Ward’s charism will help guide these principles.

On behalf of Loreto Nedlands, I invite everyone to join us in celebrating 125 years of “Loreto in the West”. In August 1896, Mother Gonzaga and Sisters de Sales Field and Aloysius Macken departed Ballarat for Perth. They arrived in WA aboard the SS Orizaba on 6 September 1896 and on 15 February 1897, a new Day School was opened in Adelaide Terrace with only two pupils.

An invitation to join us to celebrate this milestone year for Loreto in Western Australia is included in today’s newsletter. The August celebrations will begin with a Mass in the Loreto Performing Arts Centre, followed by morning tea in the Mary Ward courtyard. A special adults-only event will be held the following night and will include a unique visual presentation. Please scan the QR code to register your attendance at these events. We look forward to celebrating with you.

Firstly, I take this opportunity to thank the staff and students for an incredibly successful Term One. Staff have guided our students to excel academically, musically, physically, spiritually and emotionally and have been so generous in fundraising for those less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you, parents, for your support.

COVID-19 Self Reporting Form

It is vitally important that parents and caregivers inform the school if their child tests positive for COVID-19.

To support our planning for your child’s classroom attendance, please continue to notify the school if your child returns a negative PCR/ RAT result, after:

  • being identified as a close contact (Day 1 test to return to school as an asymptomatic close contact), and/or
  • being identified as a household close contact (Day 7 test to conclude quarantine).

To help streamline this process a COVID-19 Self-reporting Form for Students and Staff members has been developed by Catholic Education WA (CEWA). Parents and caregivers can now inform the school of their child’s positive or negative COVID result via the button below. The information will go directly to the Principal, prompting our COVID response.

Complete a Covid-19 Self-Reporting Form here

Please do not underestimate the importance of informing the school of a positive COVID case. Your actions will ensure the risk to others is minimised and that we do our very best to limit the spread of the virus across our community.
