Mary Ward’s Virtue of FREEDOM:

An inner freedom, accepting of self, open to others and the world, and trusting of life.

If you show service to anyone, do it willingly.

Dear Parents and Friends of Loreto Nedlands

As the school year draws to a close, I take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all wholeheartedly. Pope Francis says: “St Paul sets Christian freedom, the freedom given by Jesus, that does not involve separating oneself from others, but instead being part of a community.” Together we have achieved great things.

Last week our Year Five and Six students held the Final Alexander Guest Basketball Tournament. The students have thoroughly enjoyed participating in this event over the years. This year Team Barry won over Ward in the grand final. Congratulations to all students, and thank you to Mr Scott McCallum for organising.

The Year Six IPSHA Cricket day was another success. The boys’ teams were exceptional and won all their games against St Andrews and JTC. The girls also had some success and had a lot of fun, some playing for the first time. Mr McCallum said, “It was a fun-filled day out at Melvista Oval.”

This week, all Pre-Primary to Year Six students have been participating in swimming lessons. We are fortunate to have the Wildcats coming in on Tuesday, 6th December.

The school closure has created much unrest and anxiety among families and staff. I hope the Language of Friendship online interactive parent/child engagement workshop with UR Strong was helpful for families. UR Strong has kindly gifted our school free membership for 2023, and we will continue our partnership with them. This also provides parent access to their free parent membership.

Year Two students have been immersed in the History of Loreto Nedlands this term. I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend a private tour of the school by Alice, Ava, Isabelle, and Thomas. It was evident that the children knew their school and its history as we walked the grounds visiting various iconic landmarks of the school.

We have an exciting week planned for the students. All families will have received their student’s invites for the Foam Party and Circus Day. Thank you to the P & F for funding these two fun-filled events.

Next week we officially farewell our Year Six students at their Graduation Mass on Tuesday night. I take this opportunity to congratulate all of them on an outstanding year.

It is with much sadness that I say goodbye to many of our Loreto Nedlands Families. Being a part of your child’s educational journey has been my privilege. I wish you all the very best.

Finally, I invite all families to our Thank You Morning Tea following our End of Year Mass on Friday, 9th December in the Mary Ward Court Yard. The Year Six students will then showcase the traditional Year Six Skit at 11:30 am.

Kind Regards

Rika Andres, Principal, Loreto Nedlands
