Dear Parents and Friends of Loreto Nedlands
We certainly have had a fantastic term. The students have already demonstrated growth and maturity in their studies. Our dedicated staff have provided the children with a diverse range of learning opportunities across all learning areas. We have fundraised, made pancakes (and not just plain pancakes… fully loaded), celebrated Ash Wednesday, participated in our House Swimming Carnival and on Tuesday attended Café Loreto, immersing ourselves in a cultural degustation delight as we celebrated Harmony Day. My sincere thanks to Katie Sharman for coordinating the event and to all the families that assisted and shared their scrumptious dishes. But way there’s more… On Monday, our entire school is off to Rottnest to learn about its history and ride the bus or bike while participating in team and leadership-building activities.
Congratulations to our Year Three and Five students for completing their NAPLAN last week. It is always daunting when sitting a test; however, the teachers ensured our children were well prepared for the online testing platform. I look forward to sharing their results with you later in the year.
The Year Six students were pushed beyond their comfort zone as they climbed, hung and floated through the trees at Yanchep Tree Top Walk earlier this term. Last week they thoroughly immersed and enjoyed themselves in their Civics and Citizenship education whilst visiting Canberra. I sincerely thank Faron Mengler, Katie Sharman and Elizabeth Uchanski for attending the camp.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government is contributing funding of $465 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
Congratulations to Barry for earning the Swimming Shield and our Champion/Runner Up Boys and Girls in each division. All the best to our Interschool Squad when they compete against other Catholic schools next Friday. Thank you to John Rijs for coordinating.
Finally, Elizabeth Uchanski will take leave next term as she embarks on her honeymoon with her new husband, Jack. We wish Liz and Jack all the best and look forward to hearing all about it upon Liz’s return in Term Three. I am currently in the process of employing a replacement. I will inform you via SEQTA once the process is complete.
I wish all families a wonderful Easter Holiday and look forward to you all returning safely for Term Two, commencing Wednesday, 26th April.
