Dear Parents and Friends of Loreto Nedlands
Mary Ward’s virtue of FELICITY: Work with great tranquillity, joy and magnanimity, for what is not done in one year can be done in another. MW 1629
The staff and children have certainly settled well into the new school year. I am very impressed with the Year Six students and the leadership they have already demonstrated in the first two weeks. We have already had a few conversations, and our First Fun Friday fundraiser was a huge success. The children thoroughly enjoyed the tabloid sports opportunities provided by the Year Six students during lunchtime. Thank you to all families for your generous contributions.
Our Friday joint Pre Kindy and Kindergarten day is an excellent opportunity for our little ones to learn from each other. The children are engaged in outstanding play-based activities in our beautiful Kindergarten classroom.
Parents thank you for adhering to my requests regarding COVID last week. We are now back to Phase-4 guidelines. We certainly are in the lucky state, and we continue to keep all our friends and families across Australia and the globe in our prayers.
On Monday, I attended the Loreto Principal Forum, and Rebecca Barfoot attended the LSAC meeting on Tuesday. Both sessions were held virtually. Although we do not have the opportunity to meet face to face, the sessions are informative and provide us with the opportunity for professional dialogue related to current happenings in education.
Mrs Justine Jacobs is missing from Kindergarten this week. She is currently teaching at St Joseph’s in Wyndham as part of our connection with the school so that teachers can attend Professional Development in Broome. Miss Alex Daniel will be in Kindy this week. We look forward to welcoming the Year Six students later this year.
Yesterday we held our first P&F meeting for 2021. The committee has already been working hard organizing our first get together. It was unfortunate that we had to postpone the Welcoming Picnic, however, the committee has done a tremendous job. I look forward to catching up with families tomorrow evening. Parents, please remember that you are responsible for the supervision of your children.
Tonight, we have the School Board induction. We welcome Erica Jensen, Ben Beaton and Michael Ciccarelli to the Loreto Board. Our skills matrix for the School Board is very diverse and will be of great benefit as we commence writing our new Strategic Direction.
Parents, please ensure your Sacramental forms are handed in to the school office by tomorrow. The Sacramental forms are available from the church website only. Not the school office. Please note that the Sacramental Masses will be celebrated at Holy Rosary at 10:30am to assist with COVID regulations related to capacity.
This year we celebrate not only the 50th anniversary of the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia (CECWA), but also join with the National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC) and schools around the country to commemorate 200 years of Catholic education in Australia. Parents, I encourage you to visit the “Every Child Counts” website detailing the role of Catholic Education in WA https://www.everychildcounts.net.au/
As mentioned previously the Lunchbox catering is working really well. Should you forget to order the night before, the ordering time has been extended to 9am for the day of delivery.
Parents you will remember that a link via Survey Monkey was sent to you. It is a requirement that all families complete this information as we need it for Government Census as well as for our own records. We have over 40 families who have still not completed the publicity, medical register and contact details questionnaire. Please do so by tomorrow.
Finally, parents, please ensure that your child, no matter what year is wearing the correct uniform. The main areas where the uniform requirement is not adhered to is the school shoes/sport shoes and socks. Please peruse the Parent Handbook, which is available on the school website.
Have a wonderful week.
