Principal’s Message – Week 10 – June 30th, 2022

Mary Ward’s Virtue of FREEDOM: Our happiness, security and progress are not to be in riches, greatness, and favour of princes, but in having open and free access to God Almighty, from where must come our strength, light and protection. (Vita E 195/6)

Dear Parents and Friends of Loreto Nedlands

I hope you can join us for our NAIDOC Week Mass hosted by our Year One students at Holy Rosary on Friday, July 1 at 9:00 am.

I take this opportunity on behalf of the Loreto Nedlands community to congratulate Caitlyn in Year Six for being awarded an Academic and General Excellence scholarship at St Hilda’s for 2023. Caitlyn currently aspires to become a doctor, and I’m sure she will attain her goal with her excellent education at Loreto Nedlands, followed by St Hilda’s.

The P&F is an integral part of Loreto Nedlands; therefore, parents, please take the time to read my P&F Principal report as it outlines some important points. I encourage you to attend the meetings so that you are aware of upcoming events, their purpose and how you may be able to help out. The minutes are available on the school website.

In Week One of next term, the Year Six students will be heading off to Canberra for an educational tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy. Please keep them in your prayers.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government is contributing funding of $465 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Our Year Five and Six students have been busy preparing for Robo Cup to be held next term. A big thank you to Mrs Julia Waller, who has overseen the student’s design, build and test. I am fortunate enough to watch from my window the students practise their routines during lunch times and after school.

Parents, please remember to save the date for our upcoming 125 Years of Loreto Education Celebration in August. Invites have been sent out for the two events. You will find the information on our social media pages.

Also, our first term mass on Monday July 25 will be in recognition of Mr Rob Falloon’s 28 years of service at Loreto Nedlands, followed by cake and a cuppa in the Loreto Performing Arts Centre.

Finally, I wish all families and friends a wonderful semester break.

Rika Andres
