Principal’s Message – March 4th, 2021

Felicity Prayer

Help us to:
delight in the beauty of creation,
affirm the goodness in all people,
create a community of kindness and
lead with empathy and courage.

Dear Parents and Friends of Loreto Nedlands

Mary Ward’s virtue of FELICITY: Cherish God’s vocation in you. Let it be constant, efficacious and loving. MW, on her deathbed, 1645

The leadership team attended the Principal Forum on February 15. The forum launched the QCE Policy Hub, Quality Catholic Education, under the four pillars – Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship. Further details to follow.

If you have driven by the Stanley Street Early Years entrance of our beautiful school, you will have noticed the very luxurious Pre Kindy cubby house. The P&F Association donated the wonderful cubby. Although the Pre Kindy students use it predominately on Tuesday and Wednesday, it is open to all classes, especially in the Early Years. Teachers have discussed how they will integrate learning areas such as Maths and English as they visit with their students.

A group of Loreto Teachers are involved in the Microsoft Schools Transformation Program this semester. Members of the leadership team, support and class teachers will undertake various professional development through an online environment. Alongside this program, the Early Years and Science Specialist Teachers are undertaking one-to-one, face-to-face professional development with Louise Cimetta from Blueprint.

Yesterday we held a Parent Forum to discuss and share ideas about Year Six Leadership. I believe it was a very successful evening. Three scenarios were presented to families. Families then engaged in dialogue and wrote down thoughts and ideas related to each scenario. There was also an opportunity for general feedback. Parents who were unable to attend are invited to visit the Senior Learning Arcade and read the responses. You may add any additional feedback. This information will be available to families until the end of next week. Following that, teachers will then share parent feedback with the students. The students will then have the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas. I hope to present the student leadership framework by the end of the term.

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, Mrs Julia Waller attended her first two Literacy PD days – School Literacy Leaders. Julia is our Literacy Coordinator and Key teacher for 2021.

This morning the Leadership Team and our Board Chair, Eric Chidlow, attended the Climate Survey Workshop at CEWA. Loreto will be conducting the Climate Survey later this year. Data is gathered from staff, students and parents. The data collected from the survey will guide us in formulating our strategic direction and whole school improvement plan.

This Friday, the school will have a planned Evacuation Drill. Two evacuation drills and two lockdown drills are scheduled per year. This ensures that all personnel know their roles and responsibilities according to our procedures and test all stakeholders’ response to either an evacuation or lockdown situation.

Next Monday, March 8, the entire world celebrates International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day is a reminder to continue to strive for equal rights and celebrate all women in all their diversities.

Save the Date:

Year One and Two musical one performance Friday, July 30. More details to follow.

Year Five and Six musical, two performances on Friday, August 27 and Saturday, August 28. Tickets will be $25 adults and $10 students 16 years and under. Tickets will go on sale next term. Leading up to the performance, students in Years Five and Six will participate in a Theatre Camp (August 23 – August 27), which means they will focus on the performance that week only. Parents, please ensure that your child has no other commitments during that week during school hours.

Have a wonderful weekend.
