Dear Parents and Friends of Loreto Nedlands
Welcome to Term Four! We hope you all had a lovely holiday.
On the last day of term, the staff had an excellent Professional Development Day organised by our School Support Consultant Helen Moir and Aboriginal Consultant Kylie Agale from CEWA. We departed Loreto at about 9 am and set off to Matilda Bay then headed towards Kings Park where we stopped off for a much needed refreshment break. After that we meandered our way back through Kings Park, breaking at UWA for Lunch and then finally heading back to Loreto. By the end of the day, we were speechless for two reasons. Firstly, our walk enabled us to appreciate the many Aboriginal sites and points of interest we have here in our local suburb. Secondly, we were speechless, mainly me, due to the almost 20,000 steps equating to 14,500 kilometres walked by the end of the day. I’m sure I speak on behalf of all staff members who were able to participate that it was a truly glorious, meaningful and reflective day for all.
As per the text message sent out earlier this week, adoration will recommence every Thursday morning in the chapel 8:15 am to 8:30 am. A parent must accompany children.
Don’t forget to bring in your recycling with two classes having the opportunity to have Morning Tea with the Principal. One in Week Four and one in Week Eight. I’ve noticed quite a few tubs overflowing already.
Principal Art Competition
Don’t forget the Principal Art Competition. The entries received to date have been outstanding. I can’t wait to view all your entries. You can enter as many pieces as you like. There is no winning amount; it will depend on what is presented. Carolyn White, our artist-in residence, will assist in selecting the winning entries.
Staff Taking Long Service Leave 2021
Mr Robert Falloon will be taking LSL for Semester One 2021. As Mr Falloon will be taking LSL for an entire semester, I can confirm that there will be one full-time teacher in Year Three for the whole of the year. Mrs Coral Fyfe-Bortfield will be taking LSL for the entire of 2021.
Ms Claudia Di Biaggio has formally handed in her resignation effective end of 2020. On behalf of the school community, I would like to thank Claudia for her 21 years of service. As a school, we will celebrate Claudia’s retirement in the wonderful Loreto tradition fitting for someone who has contributed to the Loreto community as extensive as Claudia.
I am in the process of reviewing staffing for 2021, and I hope to announce the staffing for 2021 in Week Seven. Currently, I am advertising for a Music Specialist Teacher and an Art Specialist Teacher.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Boylson Family as they mourn the loss of a Father and Grandfather. Alana’s father passed away during the school holidays after a short illness. Please keep the family in your prayers.
Year 6 Leaders
Congratulations to our Term Four Head Boy, Noah Boruff and Head Girl, Alex Wilshire. Our Head Boy and Girl will be presented with their badges at this Monday’s Morning Gathering. I wish all our Year Six students the very best for their last term in primary school.
Year 5 Camp
Yesterday I popped in and visited the Year Fives at Bickley Camp. The students have settled well and enjoying the many activities on offer. The Quiz night was a huge success. I look forward to receiving a full run down of events upon the students return next week.
Year 12 Exams
Please remember all our Year 12 Loreto students, as well as all Year 12 students who will be sitting their final exams. The pressure of Year 12 is always very high, and our current pandemic has not made it any easier, particularly for those students who have spent most of their year isolated, away from school and their peers. We wish you all the best and will keep you in our prayers.
Mental Health Awareness Month
This month is National Mental Health Month which is an initiative of the Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA) to advocate for and raise awareness of Australian mental health. It is an important time where the Australian community comes together to raise awareness that #MentalHealthMatters. Feel free to access the website for further information.
